You can choose from various dog team tours of Svalbard’s stunning landscape based on your interests and activity level.
Begin your dog sledding Svalbard at our dog yard, where you’re greeted by hundreds of huskies like Briz, Duman, Electro, or Ginger, who love their job.
We provide boots, mittens, and an exposure suit for all our tours. You can hop on the sled as your expert guide prepares the team and harnesses for every sled. Our beautiful dogs enjoy a good howl and bark, but the air soon turns silent.
As your husky team begins pulling their sled, they go quiet and focus on pulling you quickly across the magical, snowy landscape.
A fully-trained guide leads all tours in the first sled accompanied by two guests.
The other sleds hold two guests, and you can swap between driving the well-trained huskies and taking a seat. Our tours follow the riverbed near Bolterdalen, surrounded by breathtaking mountains. We turn back at the moraine.
Dog sledding in Svalbard is a wild, wonderful experience. We cannot control the forecast, but we continuously monitor weather conditions and might adjust our snow dog tours to ensure your safety.
Our husky teams love to drive through deep snow or on icy terrain, and you’ll be comfortable whether it’s minus temperatures or plus two outside. Watch for our native reindeer, skulks of Arctic foxes, and our Svalbard grouse.
Dog sleigh rides end at the dog yard, where all guests can enjoy a warm beverage and tasty biscuits before your return to Longyearbyen.
Svalbard experiences its polar night from November to January. The sun stays 6 degrees below the horizon, and we experience 24/7 darkness on husky sledding tours.
On a sled dog adventure, you will agree that the polar night is stunning and mysterious.
When the polar night is clear, our tours into Bolterdalen can be experienced with headlamps turned off. You’ll be amazed by the majestic shadows of the Svalbard mountains without manmade light pollution.
As we gaze south, the horizon offers a glimpse of light, and the glistening, snowy terrain reflects the glowing moon and stars. You may also witness the northern lights, which are truly spectacular.
Between March and May, Svalbard experiences a “sunny winter.” As polar night ends, the sun rises, and the days become longer and brighter.
By mid-May, you will enjoy 24/7 sunlight on an awesome dog sled adventure. Behold the Bolterdalen mountains in constant daylight as your husky team pulls you through rugged, stunning valleys.
A popular add-on tour for dog sledding Svalbard is an electric snowmobile adventure where we chase the northern lights. We recommend combining these activities in the winter for an unforgettable experience.
During the summer season, we’re happy to offer tours of the beautiful Advent Valley on a wheeled sled driven by our well-trained, eager huskies.
We pick you up at your hotel and head to our dog yard in Bolter Valley. Our dogs love to bark and howl their friendly greetings, and you can assist your guide in harnessing a wheeled sled for your tour.
Dog sledding on wheels in Svalbard is your opportunity to view our healthy and unique wildlife, including our native reindeer and skulks of Arctic foxes.
Birdwatchers delight in these Advent Valley tours because you will often see plentiful grouse, comical auks, and Arctic terns and skuas.
Our wheeled dog sledding tours run for about 90 minutes. When we return our husky teams to their home base, you’re invited inside the cozy log cabin for a warm drink, and you might get a chance to snuggle with a newborn litter of puppies.
Dog sledding in Svalbard provides unique, equally stunning experiences in every season.
Wintertime brings traditional Arctic dog sledding across snowy landscapes during the polar night.
Summertime changes the terrain, and we switch to wheeled tours to explore the rugged beauty of Svalbard and our wildlife population.
