Exploring the Ice Caves During the Arctic Winter

We schedule ice-caving tours during the colder months when the conditions are stable and the safest. Ice caving is unique and thrilling, and it’s an experience for seasoned explorers and first-time visitors.

Ice Cave Tours Start at Nybyen

Longyearbyen is a breathtaking region in the Arctic, where we wonder at the towering mountains and glaciers. We’ll ensure your snowshoes are a perfect fit before we set off from Nybyen.

Our ice caving tour crosses the frozen riverbed, and we safely hike to the base of the Sarkofagen mountain. You’ll see the moraine fields ahead of the glorious Larsbreen glacier. Although you’ll feel the Earth’s gravity, many travelers wonder at this stunning landscape. To some, it resembles the moon’s surface.

Our challenging but comfortable snowshoe trek lasts approximately two hours. We gain an elevation of 350 meters up the glacier, arriving at the hidden entrance to the ice cave.

Enter the Magical Arctic Underworld

We ensure your helmet, crampon, and headlamp are safe and secure. Then, we journey down into the ice caves of Svalbard.

On our glacier cave tours, you’ll have time to explore open areas with thick layers of sparkling icy crystals. We’ll show you through narrow passageways to see meltwater channels formed during the previous summer season.
