Svalbard Experts is pleased to offer you Northern Lights guided tours. This Arctic adventure is ideal for seeing the unforgettable Aurora Borealis dancing across the northern sky.

Why Travelers Recommend Our Tours

Because our Northern Lights tours feature local experts, we know the best viewing spots and fascinating stories about the Arctic to personalize your experience. We also ensure your safety and comfort as you journey into our mysterious wilderness on a magical polar night.

We have designed tours for practically every traveler. Our Svalbard Northern Lights guided tours work very well for small and large groups, seasoned adventurers, and travelers with limited time. In other words, we have the perfect tour for you!

Journey to Camp Barentz on a Polar Night

Join your expert guide on a Northern Lights tour to Camp Barentz at the foot of the Breinosa mountain.

Camp Barentz features cozy wooden cabins. Your host will welcome you inside to enjoy a genuine Norwegian meal with drinks. Afterward, delight in campfire coffee and dessert.

This once-working camp below Mine 7 is outside town, and its peaceful, remote location often offers the best conditions to view the Aurora Borealis.

The camp also features a historical replica of Willem Barentz’s 16th-century cabin. He discovered Svalbard, and we can visit the Barentz Hus cabin named after him.

In addition to the sky’s wonders, you may spot Arctic birds and foxes or our prized reindeer. Occasionally, we may spot a polar bear! Your expert guide and host constantly watch to ensure a safe distance with any wildlife encounter.

Learn About the Aurora

Your Northern Lights guided tour includes fascinating lore and secrets about the Aurora Borealis, which your host will share as you relax around the fire.

When the Northern Lights are spotted, you will be amazed by the view outside the cabin. You may experience those magical flashes of green light around the clock during polar nights from mid-November to late January.

Northern Lights Hunt with Electric Snowmobile

We offer Northern Lights guided tours on an electric snowmobile. These are quieter tours and eco-friendly for the Arctic environment.

Svalbard Experts snowmobile tours depart from Adventdalen. Traveling outside the city, away from light pollution, we get the best chance to wonder at the Northern Lights.

Northern Lights Tours Around the Clock

Our region is famous for its polar nights between mid-November and late January. If you’re only in the area during traditional “daylight,” you’re still in luck!

The polar nights offer round-the-clock darkness. While the Aurora Borealis flashes most brilliantly overnight, the Northern Lights glow with a reddish tint in daytime hours. It’s beautiful and fascinating.

Enjoy an Introductory Tour

Take your electric snowmobile on a shorter adventure across easier, flatter terrain. If your time is short, this 40km trip is perfect. It’s quicker, and the electric snowmobile provides an easy, comfortable drive.

A Word About Our Electric Snowmobiles

Svalbard Experts chooses the highest-quality snowmobiles with batteries that maintain ideal temperatures in the harshest conditions.

Without a regular motor, you’ll be amazed at the quietness of your electric snowmobile. We pride ourselves on this eco-friendly decision because it’s easier on the landscape and our beloved Arctic wildlife.

That’s right! You can see even more on your Svalbard Northern Lights tour. Our guide will keep you on the lookout for our prized reindeer, Arctic birds, and polar foxes. There may even be a polar bear in the distance.

A Guided Northern Lights Tour On Dog Sled

The most Arctic of adventures is a dog sled tour. Jump on your sled to chase the magical Aurora Borealis across the polar night sky!

During the polar night season, the sun remains 6 degrees below the horizon, creating 24/7 darkness. Dog sledding under starry skies is an unforgettable experience.

All travelers receive properly fitting safety gear, including headlamps. Our dog sledding tours depart from Bolterdalen.

As we safely journey deeper into the polar night, you’ll get the all-clear to turn off your headlamp. Then, the wonders begin.

On the clearest polar nights, you’ll see the mysterious shadows of the Svalbard mountains. The snow reflects the Northern Lights, moon, and stars, amazing our guests with nature’s beauty with no manmade light pollution.

Northern Lights Svalbard Experts

Svalbard Northern Lights Tours Offered Exclusively in Wintertime

Our winter season is prime time for viewing the Northern Lights. This is the time of the polar night when the sun sinks below the horizon.

The 24/7 darkness is a quiet, magical experience unlike anywhere else on Earth. Winter brings crisper air, often providing the clearest view of the amazing Aurora Borealis.

Travelers who love daylight are delighted by summertime in Svalbard! The season brings around-the-clock daylight. You may know it as the Midnight Sun.

While we can’t view the Northern Lights in summer, Svalbard Experts offers equally exciting summer tours, including thrilling boat and wildlife tours with gorgeous flora and fauna.
